Michelle Duster to Release 'Michelle Obama's Impact on African American Women and Girls' in August
Business and Entrepreneurship faculty member and author ’s newest book, Michelle Obama’s Impact on African American Women and Girls, will be released August 13,
Michelle Obama’s Impact on African American Woman and Girls includes academic essays from Carole Boyce Davies, personal reflections, poetry by Clara Freeman, and artwork from Rhonda Gray. For the past five years, Duster has helped work on the anthology of writings by African-American women about the efforts and media depictions of Michelle Obama. Co-edited with Paula Marie Seniors and Rose C. Thevenin, this anthology looks at how Obama was perceived as the First Lady and in her current role as a citizen of the United States.
The book follows Duster’s previous books Ida In Her Own Words and Ida From Abroad, which focus on her great-grandmother Ida B. Wells, the famed suffragist and anti-lynching activist.
Duster has recently appeared on The New York Times podcast “,” voicing the words of Wells, and has written about the importance of in the Chicago Sun-Times.
