Graduate Student Quinn Davis Awarded Schweitzer Fellowship
Quinn Davis, a graduate student in the Creative Arts Therapies Department, was awarded an in Chicago (2017-18). The Fellowship is a community-based, service-learning program that allows students to develop projects that improve the health and wellbeing of underserved Chicagoland residents.
Davis, who is slated to graduate in 2018 with an MA in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling, plans to work with , an organization that helps women transition out of homelessness. As Davis puts it, women who have experienced homelessness “face unique, intersecting challenges, and statistically have experienced a great amount of trauma.” Through therapeutic dance sessions, she hopes to “foster a supportive kinship among the women, relieve stress, and provide healing to a population frequently underserved by the mental health community.”
The Fellowship program is administrated by the , which assists vulnerable residents who experience health inequities within education, the environment, and due to poverty. Davis is among 30 students who were selected from nearly 100 applicants for the year-long Fellowship.
