Utilizing a box truck and mounted with multiple external cameras, images from the surrounding environment will be live captured by Rappaport, mixed with pre-existing video, and projected onto a screen mounted in the back of the truck.
“'range' is in conversation with architecture in that it simultaneously uses and brings attention to urban infrastructure,” says Rappaport. “The project itself is a form of tracing or mapping the built environment. It explores how people and objects inhabit those spaces.”
Rappaport notes that the truck is not a platform for showing a video, but rather an integral sculptural element of the project. “It’s a vehicle that activates an environment that the audience is already in,” he says. “The ‘a-ha’ moment happens when people who aren’t looking for an art experience become part of the environment activated by the project.”
