SiLA is a comprehensive, immersive program that bridges classroom learning with real-world industry experience. Whether you study film, theatre, design, animation, business, music, or marketing, SiLA is open to all Columbia College students who are ready to take their creativity into the professional world.
SiLA follows Columbia’s academic calendar: 15 weeks in fall and spring, and 10 weeks in summer. To maintain full-time student status, you must enroll in at least 12 credits during the fall or spring term, and 6 credits in summer. Click the toggles below to find registration details specific to your term.
Once accepted, your SiLA journey officially begins, and preparation is key. Arriving in Los Angeles unprepared means missing out on valuable opportunities to connect, grow, and succeed. That’s why SiLA includes a required pre-departure course designed to set you up for success:
MEDI 334 – SiLA Pre-Departure Course (1 Credit)
Online | Asynchronous | Required for all accepted students
This one-credit course is your foundation for a successful semester in Los Angeles. Through guided industry research, you’ll identify your goals, refine your professional materials, and begin your internship search before you ever arrive in LA. The course focuses on how to stand out in a competitive entertainment market and teaches practical strategies for outreach, networking, and career development.
Passing MEDI 334 is required for participation in the SiLA program. Students who do not complete this course successfully will not be eligible to attend the semester in Los Angeles.
SiLA isn’t just about studying in LA, it’s about launching your next chapter in the creative industries. Your coursework is built to connect what you’ve learned at Columbia to real opportunities in Hollywood and beyond.
