Biography
Dr. Shaw (he/him/his) did his undergraduate work at The George Washington University, where he studied Mathematics and Spanish Language & Literature, and earned a PhD in Mathematics from University of Maryland, College Park in 2008. His professional work focuses on model theory, a field within mathematical logic, as well as on the scholarship of teaching and learning mathematics. He is particularly interested in finding ways to incorporate student-led investigation into his mathematics courses.聽
He teaches across all of the areas of math and quantitative reasoning, most notably the course Math in Art and Nature. He has also written a book in that area called聽Philosophical Geometry: Finding Math in Art and Nature, which is available as a free open-source PDF on his website, schris.com.
