The American Marketing Association's event brings emerging marketing leaders from across the country to campus for immersive, peer-driven training and collaboration

汤不热视频 welcomed marketing leaders from across the country on April 17–18, as the host site for the (AMA) Leadership Labs. Held at the college’s School of Business and Entrepreneurship, the two-day program focused on preparing incoming AMA chapter presidents and president-elects for their leadership roles.  

The American Marketing Association is a national organization dedicated to advancing the marketing profession through education, resources, and community-building. Its collegiate chapter network supports students and advisors at universities nationwide, offering opportunities for leadership development, professional growth, and industry connection. As Columbia is home to an AMA Collegiate Chapter, faculty and students engage with the organization regularly. Leadership Labs serves as a cornerstone event for this national AMA leadership community. 

A Campus Committed to Marketing Education 

As home to a marketing degree within the School of Business and Entrepreneurship, Columbia is committed to preparing students for careers in a rapidly evolving industry and maintaining close connections with marketing professionals and organizations.  

“Engaging with organizations like the AMA allows Columbia to connect our academic community with the broader marketing industry,” says Jerry Brindisi, interim director of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship. “By hosting Leadership Labs, we are supporting the development of future leaders while reinforcing our commitment to experiential learning, professional collaboration, and real-world impact.” 

Welcoming Remarks and Pre-Conference Workshop 

The event opened with remarks from Suzanne McBride, interim senior vice president and provost at Columbia, and Monika Jaiswal-Oliver, academic manager and adjunct professor of instruction in Columbia’s School of Business and Entrepreneurship. 

Ahead of the main program, Associate Professor Sandra Kumorowski and Professor and Chair Emeritus Philippe Ravanas led a pre-conference workshop titled “Brand to Belonging: How to Build a Chapter Marketers Want to Join and Grow With” where they talked about brand heritage, storytelling, and innovating the AMA brand. 
  
Hands-On, Peer-Driven Learning 

Designed as an immersive experience, Leadership Labs emphasized hands-on, peer-driven learning. Participants engaged in interactive workshops and collaborative sessions covering topics such as chapter management, strategic planning, member engagement, and event execution. The program encouraged attendees to exchange ideas, share challenges, and learn directly from one another, reinforcing connections across institutions. 

According to Jaiswal-Oliver, students in the played a key role in the event, including creating social media content for the national chapter. Leading the way were Senior Abby Hernandez, the Columbia’s chapter president, and Lena Senior Sliniger, the chapter’s vice president. Other students involved in the event included Clare Hu, Joy Seo, Brandon Villagomez, Gigi Gimelli, and Kat Liu. 

“From capturing photos to conducting interviews to editing content, students engaged with the industry leaders at the event,” Jaiswal-Oliver says.  

Keynote on the Future of Marketing and Leadership 

A highlight of the event was a keynote presentation by a, a globally recognized marketing strategist, author, and former Chief Growth Officer of Publicis Groupe. His keynote explored the future of leadership and marketing in an era of rapid change, emphasizing adaptability, creativity, and human-centered thinking. 
Jaiswal-Oliver and Kumorowski played a key role in securing Tobaccowala as the event’s keynote speaker, further connecting Columbia’s academic community with industry thought leadership.
